Stefàn Arason
(1978-)
Studied composition and music theory under Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson and Hilmar Thordarson at the Reykjavík College of Music in Iceland. He graduated in 2001, and continued his studies in composition at the Danish Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus under Karl Aage Rasmussen, Bent Sørensen and Hans Gefors. Stefán graduated from The Royal Academy in 2004 and in 2006 he finished the 4th year of music theory having studied under Lasse Laursen. That same year, Stefán moved to Copenhagen where he studied organ and choral conducting at Zealand's School for Church Music from which he graduated in 2008. Since then, Stefán has been permanently employed as an organist in the Danish State Lutheran Church. During this time, he has taken further training in choral conducting at Voces Academy with Peter Hanke. Stefán’s compositions have been performed on many occasions in Iceland and Denmark and also around Europe and the USA. His choir music has attracted particular interest and he has composed music for the Danish National Girls’ Choir, The Aarhus University Choir, Aarhus Cathedral Cantori, Hljómeyki and Staka.
